Partial Band Jamming Excision in Wcdma Using Raised Cosine Empirical Mode Decomposition

This paper introduces a novel algorithm for partial band interference excision in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) communication systems like the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) air interface standard used in third generation mobile telecommunication networks. The excision algorithm consists of two stages: signal decomposition using the raised cosine empirical mode decomposition (RCEMD) technique, followed by despreading of appropriate extracted component. An advantage of this technique is that it does not use an implicit parameterized model for the interference signal to perform excision and is applicable to a wide variety of interfering signals such as multiple tones and frequency modulated signals with complicated instantaneous frequencies. The bit-error-rate (BER) performance of this technique is studied and compared to some existing techniques for partial band interference excision in this paper.
